The sinkholes were created when plaster and salt stone banks leached out in the layers of the Middle Muschelkalk and later the ceiling of these cavities collapsed. There are stairs and a slippery path to descend into the old hole. The hole is currently closed.

Eisingen has a special kind of geological attraction with the famous Eisinger Loch not far from the district road to Neulingen-Göbrichen. More precisely, there are two holes that have been protected as natural monuments since 1985. Because the old Eisinger Loch, which was probably built in 1527, was joined by a second hole, originally 47 meters deep, only a few meters away in 1966. In both cases it is collapse funnels, so-called sinkholes, in the karst rock typical of the Bauschlotter Platte, which was previously hollowed out by washing out gypsum and rock salt.
