On September 23, 1981, the ship was taken out of service as the last lightship on the Weser due to high maintenance costs and replaced by a large buoy. The ship was initially laid up. On March 1, 1983, the Wilhelmshaven sailing association Klaus Störtebeker e. V. took over the care of it as a museum and restaurant ship at Bontekai.[3]
After the sailing association could no longer guarantee the maintenance of the ship, it was towed from Bontekai to Nordfrost's northwest quay in June 2017.[4] However, since Nordfrost needed the berth, the ship was towed to the commercial port on December 14, 2017 and laid up there.[5]
From 2023, the ship was restored and renamed at the Neue Jadewerft. It now bears its construction name Norderney again and the station name was changed from Weser to Wilhelmshaven. On September 9, 2024, it was towed to a newly renovated berth at the Coastal Museum. After the remaining work there has been completed, it will be accessible again as a museum ship.
