Officially: Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli del Paradiso or del Paradisino
Church designed by the Modena painter and designer Giovanni Guerra (1544-1618), built in 1596. It is also known as the Church of Paradisino, a name that seems to derive from the nearby spring called “del Paradiso”, precisely because of the goodness of its waters.
From 1604 the church and the surrounding area became the first seat of the Modena Theatine order, later, in 1638, they passed to the Discalced Carmelites, in 1808 to the Minor Observants and finally in 1822 to the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus. The façade is dominated by a giant order of four pilasters, decorated with capitals, which support an entablature interrupted in the center by the presence of a large window placed in correspondence with the entrance portal. The interior has a single nave onto which six side chapels open, all finely decorated.
Among the most important works are: in the first chapel on the left an Annunciation by Ercole dell’Abate (1563-1618) and, in the fourth chapel, on a rich gilded altar, an Ecstasy of Saint John by the Flemish painter Michele Desubleo (1602-1676). The coffered ceiling, decorated and painted in 1620 by Camillo Gavassetti (1596-1630), Marco Meloni and Alessandro Bagni, was the subject of a major restoration in 2000.

The church is currently used by the Catholic community of the Ukrainian tradition: for this reason the presbytery area is occupied by a large gilded icon typical of Eastern religiosity.
