    The Manrother See is a former basalt opencast mine. Relics of the volcanic past accompany us throughout the hike. A display board at the Bertenauer Weitblick provides information about the panorama that can be seen.

          Unfortunately, the Manrother Lake is fenced off and the path leads along above the lake. Since a lot of it is overgrown, it is not quite as beautiful as I had imagined. It would be nice if there was a place to rest right by the lake.

                      The mysterious turquoise-blue color of Lake Manroth, formed by basalt mining, is the color of the lake. Steep basalt walls frame the lake. It is fenced in to prevent anyone from falling in. The Westerwaldsteig trail and the Basalt and Non-Ferrous Metals Georoute pass by here. A clear view of the lake is denied; you have to peek through the bushes to see anything of it. From a nicely landscaped bench, you can only gaze at the bushes.
