It is a medieval tower which is one of the city's symbols and an important tourist attraction. It was built in the late 14th or early 15th century, initially in a rectangular shape, and later rebuilt in the mid-16th century with an oblong shape. The tower, about 9.5 meters high, was part of the city's defensive walls and has served various functions over the centuries, including a warehouse and a prison. It now houses the Center of Kalisz Fairy Tales and Legends, and is named after a local legend about a girl named Dorotka.
