The Norderelb Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Norderelbe between Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg and Rothenburgsort as part of the eastern bypass of the A1 motorway. It was the first large mid-level cable-stayed bridge in Germany.

Unfortunately, bicycles are not permitted on the bridge – meaning you cannot cross the Elbe here. It's a shame that this wasn't taken into account during the planning.

The structure was built between 1959 and 1963 as part of the construction of a southern bypass of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the first new river bridge to be built in Hamburg after the Second World War.

The bridge has been listed as Hamburg's cultural monuments by the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media since the 2010s, with the number 14429.

Cracks in the stabilizing elements were repaired in May 2015.

Due to the current state of the bridge and the planned eight-lane expansion of Autobahn 1, replacement structures for the bridge are scheduled to be built in the 2020s.

In 2010, an average of over 100,000 vehicles were counted daily.
