The basilica of San Giorgio in Lemine was built around the year 1150. Today it is immersed in the green countryside, while in ancient times it was surrounded by a medieval village, destroyed by the Venetian Republic in 1443.
It seems that it was built by the Episcopate of Bergamo in the period in which the basilica of San Maria Maggiore was rebuilt in the city; the same workers would have worked on it, using the same materials and construction techniques.

ancient Romanesque church that suddenly appears when you least expect it. Incredibly preserved intact, it offers a tiny corner of the Middle Ages in an otherwise very built-up area. Not to be missed, if you have the chance, even visiting the church.
