In 1885, the Imperial Postal Administration acquired the almost 3200 square meter site and built its headquarters there. The reason for the construction was a lack of space in the Imperial Post's previous headquarters, where by the beginning of 1880 the premises had become too small for the rapidly growing authority. It took four years for the building to be constructed in all its glory and it still dominates the cityscape of Konstanz today.

Imperial Post Office Building: The building was constructed between 1888 and 1891 in the neo-Renaissance style as the headquarters of the Konstanz General Post Office of the German Imperial Post Office. The relief heads of the "five continents" above the windows of the mezzanine floor are influenced by colonialism and were intended to show that the post reached all parts of the world. The telegraph line insulators on the eastern gable show the state of the art in communications technology at the time. Today the building is the headquarters of the Sparkasse Bodensee, which was created shortly after the extensive renovation from the merger of the savings banks in Konstanz and Friedrichshafen.
