In Suiltjelma there are the ruins of the old smelting works with walls in danger of collapsing.
In 1858, the Sami Mons Petter found copper pyrite here. Ore mining continued until 1991. Since then, the buildings have been falling into disrepair.
In 2015, seven international artists were given the opportunity to bring some color and life to the gray dreariness of Sulitjelma. As a result, colorful, large-format works of art now decorate the old walls and turn parts of the
mining settlement into a huge gallery.
Strett Art artist Stein Litz has immortalized Mons Petter on a huge concrete wall. The Sami who found the first ore back then.
