On the Premium Erzgräberwanderweg is the late Celtic fortification, the Birg. A visible wall adjoins the two-hectare height attachment on three sides, the fourth side is formed by a 30-meter-dropping rock wall. Finds testify to the treverischen residents. The "Birg" in Schmelz-Limbach is one of the best researched fortifications in the Saarland, because in the 1970s and 1980s, nine excavation campaigns were carried out by the Saarland University's Institute for Pre- and Early History. The "Birg" was essentially a refuge in times of unrest and was used from the late Celtic period to the early Middle Ages.

The municipality of Schmelz has made the "Birg" high-altitude fortification system on the premium "Erzgräberweg" hiking trail more attractive to visitors and improved its experience. The excavation sections of the 80s in the upper castle wall were filled again and the south and west walls of the central building on the upper castle plateau were visualized. The hiker can now better perceive the former character of the special cultural monument. Information boards tell visitors interesting things about the eventful history of the "Birg".

The "Little Evergreen" grows on the "Birg", a relic plant from the Roman period. With its blue flowers, the plant covers the Birg with a blue carpet in spring.

The "Birg" in Schmelz-Limbach can be reached from L.I.O 145 via Bahnhofstrasse. The path is signposted to a parking lot. From there you can walk to the monument in 15 minutes.)
