Everyday people: What the new figures in the cityscape of Delbrück are all about
Delbrück
Large figures - known as everyday people - are now decorating the first districts of Delbrück. The art project was implemented largely with the support of local associations. The city will soon have ten of these new citizens. Sudhagen has now made a start.
The everyday people come from the Lechnerhof studio near Witten and are made of concrete. The sculptor Christel Lechner has been exhibiting them since 1996. She and her daughter Laura are behind the art of everyday people. Sculptures are to be placed in Anreppen, Boke, Delbrück, Ostenland, Sudhagen, Steinhorst and Westenholz in the future.
"We are pleased that we have finally been able to start setting up the figures. Other figures will soon be set up in Lippling and at the new green square in Delbrück-Mitte," says a delighted Mayor Werner Peitz.
In Schöning, the installation of the everyday people will be delayed a little longer, as the village square has to be redesigned first, according to the town hall. The project is being implemented with the support of all the local associations in the town of Delbrück.
The mayor thanks those responsible for the voluntary time they have spent. In the next step of the project, the town of Delbrück, as the project sponsor, will bring Delbrück's town history - ten places, one town - to life by means of the everyday people until the end of September.
For this purpose, QR codes will be placed in the immediate vicinity of the figures, which can then be used to play an audio file with historical, informative information about the district, often with the odd anecdote, in standard German or Low German via smartphone on the town's homepage. The "History Whispers" project is funded with funds from the EU LEADER program, which is intended to promote rural areas.
The everyday people are well known in the region. There are examples in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Rietberg, Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock and, since 2022, also in Salzkotten.
