The possibly provocative dissonance between the built environment and the sculptural work at the time of completion is almost programmatic in the case of the Faunbrunnen. Heinrich Apel demonstratively placed the round in the square of a tried-and-tested business architecture of socialist-planned economy provenance. The attempts at beautification of the last two decades, however, seem like cheap costume jewellery, which in the meantime may already awaken the longing for the brittle breasts of the East German construction worker beauty.
