The Staircase to Heavenly View is one of the most iconic spots in the Hoge Kempen National Park. This impressive metal staircase winds its way up the former Connecterra mining spoil heaps, leading to a breathtaking panorama of lakes, forests, and hills—a view that lives up to its name.
With over 300 steps, the climb is challenging, but at the top, a reward awaits you that you won't soon forget. From the Heavenly Viewpoint, you look out over the glistening pools of water that were once mine shafts, now transformed into a nature reserve. The spoil heaps are a reminder of the mining history of Eisden and Maasmechelen, while nature has regained its natural balance here.
The staircase itself is a symbol of transformation: from industry to nature, from past to future. Each step literally brings you closer to the sky as the horizon widens. On clear days, you can see for miles, deep into Belgian and Dutch Limburg.
