The oldest house in Nienburg is at Kleine Kirchstraße 2, right next to St. Martin's Church.

It was built around 1490-1500 and is part of the basic development around the church.

It is not without reason that it looks a bit crooked, because for economic reasons the naturally grown oak beams had to be used at the time and so the residents then lived quite naturally on a sloping living level.

This can still be seen today from the outside, because the house has been preserved in its original form.

Almost nothing has changed in the area either. The special location in the choir of St. Martin's Church did not allow for this.

In and around the house, you can easily take yourself back in time to more than 500 years ago.

At that time, the castles were just being replaced by urban fortresses, and Nienburg was the strongest fortress in the Middle Weser region.

It was the time of Copernicus, Columbus, Riemenschneider, Dürer and Leonardo da Vinci, who rivaled Michelangelo in Italy and had just completed what is now the world's most famous painting, the Mona Lisa.

Mankind believed to still be living on a disk and could only feel reasonably safe behind fortress walls.
