There are 19 perfectly preserved Dutch mills along the Nieuwe Waterschap canal. As in many other places in Holland, the mills were not used as grain mills when they were built in the 18th century, but as wind pumps. With their help, the polders around Dordrecht, Zwijndrecht and Papendrecht were drained - a technical masterpiece for the time.
Today, the mills are on the UNESCO World Heritage List and are a wonderful photo opportunity - Holland feeling at its finest. In addition, some of the mills can even be visited.
