The Tisa Walls (also known as Tiské stěny) are an impressive rock landscape. The famous rock walls are located in Bohemian Switzerland. The area covers an area of around 100 hectares. Rocks up to 70 meters high rise out of the forest above the eponymous town of Tisá (Tyssa). The Tisa Walls are a rock city made of sandstone. The natural monument attracts numerous tourists and is considered one of the main attractions of Bohemian Switzerland. The Tisa Walls and the neighboring Bürschlitz Walls (Bürschlické stěny) are protected as a national nature reserve. The striking rock walls are located in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. They are located in the Czech part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains about 20 km from the district town of Ustí nad Labem and 5 km from the German border crossing in the municipality of Petrovice. Tisá is located in the Czech part of Saxon Switzerland, which is also known as Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland. The municipality lies at an altitude of about 550 m above

The rocky world of the Tyssa Walls was developed in the 19th century. As the number of visitors increased, the then owner Thun-Hohenstein had the footpaths developed into trails. Later, a local group of the Bohemian Switzerland Mountain Association was founded. In 1884, it already had 92 members. They took over the maintenance of the hiking trails. The bizarre rock formations were given names and were first depicted on engravings and later on postcards. The mountaineering development of the rocks began between 1908 and 1925. At that time, there was already an accident relief center of the Saxon Mountaineering Association in the region. However, development was interrupted by the two world wars and the expulsion of the German population. After 1955, a gradual revival began and increasingly challenging climbing routes were climbed. Today, the Tyssa Walls are the most visited climbing area in Bohemian Switzerland.
