The Altmühlsee is a real highlight, both for cyclists and water sports enthusiasts. There is a beautiful cycle path around the entire lake, and the lake is also ideal for swimming, sailing or surfing.
In the northern part of the lake is the bird island, which is one of the most important protected areas for migratory birds in Bavaria. A visit to the bird island with its observation tower is definitely worth it. However, the bike must be parked because you are only allowed to explore the island on foot. You can reach the island via a wooden footbridge.
