Wilten Basilica, Innsbruck
Spacious, rich in history, and patronizing, it is considered the most beautiful Rococo church in the country and, alongside the Premonstratensian Abbey Church, the second largest church in Wilten—and also home to the famous Wilten Boys' Choir: Wilten Basilica.
Hundreds of years ago, Roman legionaries are said to have venerated a unique image of the Virgin Mary at its site, the former "Veldidena." Remains of an early Christian church from the 5th century, found beneath the basilica, support this beautiful legend.
And one can clearly sense that the early veneration of the Virgin Mary continues to this day. For example, the image of the "Our Lady under the Four Pillars," a late Gothic sculpture beneath the ciborium altar, is still the destination of countless worshippers today.

Festive gold, delicate colors and elegant stucco
In the middle of the 18th century the historic church was completely renovated by the clergyman Franz de Paula Penz, an amateur builder. Bavarian artists as well as the fresco painter Mathias Günther and the plasterers Feichtmayr from Wessobrunn made a significant contribution to the unmistakable beauty and elegance of the church and its rooms.
Delicate colors that celebrate gentle beauty in the light-flooded church interior, completed by elegant, light stucco in the form of rocailles reflect the classic grace of the rococo and are a unique experience.
For the visit, except during St. Fair is always possible, a voluntary donation is requested.
