In the period after the Thirty Years' War, the town of Winden was almost deserted and the church was half-ruined. At that time, Huguenots who had been expelled from France because of their faith were allowed to settle in Winden. To this day, many French-sounding family names tell of this time. The Huguenots not only found a new home here in Winden, they helped to rebuild the town and the current church.

Where a half-ruined medieval chapel had previously stood, in 1745 they built the baroque church with their pastor Sprenger, using their own resources, which still shapes the image of Winden today. And people are still proud of this achievement today.

The church has been renovated and rebuilt several times, and the gallery was extended to provide space for more people. It has retained its baroque charm and its sermon-oriented character to this day.

The Winterhalter organ has also been preserved. It was built between 1752 and 1763 by Johann Michael Hartung von Dürkheim. the organ that now "breathes" in the listed facade was, however, newly installed in 1993.

The tower was also rebuilt. The medieval substructure of the tower next to the church was raised in 1865 and given a spire. It once housed the historic "parish bell", which was installed in 1770 under Pastor Sprenger. It and its three sisters from 1954 invite you to our services in the choir to this day.

There is a special "find" to discover in the church: the late Gothic baptismal font was rediscovered in 1920 in a nearby farmstead. Since the 1950s it has served its purpose again for baptisms, just as it did in the old medieval chapel.
