In 1939, the von Korffs, an old Baltic noble family, lived in this castle.
After the collapse of the Livonian Confederation, Krustpils Castle became the property of the Polish king. At the beginning of the Livonian War, Krustpils Castle and the castle settlement were captured and destroyed twice, in 1559 and 1577, by the troops of the Russian Tsar Ivan IV. In the Jama Zapolska Peace Treaty of 1582, it was designated as the citadel of the Krustpils parish (Latin: arx Krutzborc, Круцборг).

On March 1, 1585, King Stefan Báthory donated the castle and the town to the colonel of the Polish-Lithuanian army, Nicholas III von Korff, for his services in the Russo-Polish War. During this period, the castle was destroyed, lost its medieval fortress function and turned into the center of the manor. In 1602, N. Korf received from the Polish King Sigismund III the privilege of inheriting the castle with the adjacent territory forever. From 1622, the castle was expanded and a lime and brick kiln were additionally built.

During the Polish-Swedish War in 1626, the castle was occupied by the Swedes and was not recaptured by Korff until 1630. During the Great Northern War, the castle was partially destroyed. In the first half of the 18th century, a new building with small corner towers with baroque domes was built, partially using the old walls, while preserving the closed courtyard typical of medieval palaces. A new upper part was built for the gate tower. The rebuilt Krustpils Palace can be seen in the drawing by K. Broce from 1792. The manor includes a large complex of outbuildings, located some distance behind the former moat. In 1864 there were a total of 46 buildings, including barns, servants' quarters, stables, an arena, a three-part orangery, a brewery, "Swiss House" and others. In 1902 Nikolai Péteris Paul von Korff laid a telephone line in the castle.
