Its technically government land, but you can walk / cycle in past the boom gate. There is space for about 8 cars only. Come early to wait for sunrise. Loads of hermit crabs are scattered on the beach. Kids will love it!

For cyclists, you'll have to push or carry your bike for a minute or so to get to the beach.

Desaru Beach is easily accessible, being about a 90-minute car ride from Singapore and an hour's drive from Johor Bahru. You can also take a ferry service from Singapore to the Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal. For those driving, parking is available, though it is somewhat limited with space for approximately eight cars near the main access point. Arriving early is highly recommended, especially if you plan to catch the sunrise or visit during peak times, as parking spots fill up quickly.

Are there specific trails or routes for hiking or cycling at Desaru Beach?

While Desaru Beach itself is primarily for beach activities, the surrounding Desaru Coast area offers opportunities for both cycling and exploring. Cyclists can find routes that traverse the area, though you may need to push or carry your bike for a short minute to reach the sandy beach itself. Beyond the immediate beachfront, you can explore lush rainforests, which may offer informal walking paths, and there are organized mangrove tours along the Lebam River for nature exploration.
