The oldest surviving parts of today's church probably date back to the 9th century. Romanesque columns from the building at that time can be found in today's church tower. During the Thirty Years' War, Eschborn and the church were destroyed. The latter was rebuilt in 1624.

Eschborn was first mentioned in a document in 770.
The city of Eschborn has been subject to constant change over the centuries and has developed from a small farming village to a financial center and commercial center on the outskirts of Frankfurt.

During the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, Eschborn was burned down and destroyed on June 20, 1622 by the troops of Christian von Braunschweig, also known as the "mad Christian", including the church. When the church was rebuilt in 1624, the building was only still single-aisled.
