John Ericsson was a world-famous inventor from Langban. One of Ericsson's most famous designs was the ironclad Monitor, which helped the North secure victory in the Battle of Hampton Roads.
The headland serves as a memorial to John Ericsson's deeds and love for his country. The two steel cannons were designed by him and manufactured in New York. They were a gift to Sweden and armed the first Monitor ship in 1865. When they were declared unsuitable for modern warfare in 1900, the state handed the two cannons over to the church council of Filipstad.
