The Roman Catholic Church of St. Barbara on Friedrichstrasse bears the patronage of St. Barbara due to the mining tradition. Originally, Pumpe-Stich belonged to the parish of St. Peter and Paul. After a church building association was founded in 1869, the disused "Friedrich-Wilhelm-Schacht" of the EBV in Pumpe was converted and set up as an emergency church in 1879. From 1879 onwards, a service was held there every Sunday from St. Peter and Paul. In 1885, the parish received its first independent pastor, and in 1889 its own asset management. It was elevated to parish status on June 5, 1898. Construction of the current parish church began in 1901 based on a design by the Aachen cathedral master builder Joseph Buchkremer. The church was completed in 1902. On June 17, 1906, it was consecrated by the Archbishop of Cologne, Anton Cardinal Fischer. In September 1944, the church was almost completely destroyed by the effects of the war. Thanks to the great financial and manual efforts of the entire community, the war damage was repaired by 1950. It is a branch church of the Catholic parish "Heilig Geist", which was formed in 2010 from five former parishes in the southern part of Eschweiler, and belongs to the community of Eschweiler-Süd parishes in the diocese of Aachen.
Since May 25, 2015 (Whit Monday), the church has also been used by the Evangelical Community of Eschweiler, whose Friedenskirche in Pumpe-Stich had to be deconsecrated because the building was in dire need of renovation. The arrangement initially applied for one year and has now been continued indefinitely. Catholic services are on Saturday evenings, and the Evangelical service is on Sunday mornings.
