During the construction work on the south-east bypass road in the early 1990s, traces of Roman settlement were found at the intersection with the K 73 (towards Seltenbach).
The Roman Vicus Eisenberg was a center of iron smelting. The State Archeology Directorate, various universities and volunteers have been carrying out regular excavations since 1992. Over 20 houses have already been uncovered and documented. The General Directorate for Cultural Heritage has published a book on this (available from the VG Eisenberg service office).

The Romans had settled in Eisenberg. Excavations are currently being carried out and in the so-called vicus some of the excavations have already been reconstructed.
