Grubenstrasse in Rostock is a north-south street in the historic center of the Hanseatic city.
It represents the border between the former suburbs of the old town and the middle town and has a length of about 550 meters.
The Grubenstraße is of local importance for traffic as part of a connection between the Steintor suburb and the Am Strande street and Rostock city harbor.
The Warnow tributary "Grube" ran from Mühlendamm to Unterwarnow in its place until the middle of the 19th century.

A narrow watercourse in Grubenstraße symbolizes the former course of a sidearm of the Warnow. The original pit connected the Unterwarnow with the water network of the Oberwarnow.
In the early 13th century even merchant ships are said to have unloaded their goods on the banks of the pit. In 1852 the pit was filled in. Railway tracks were now laid in this area and created a connection to the city port.
After the Grubenstraße was destroyed in 1942, it was rebuilt in the 1950s. Grubenstrasse was redesigned in the mid-1990s.
