"The castle Alt-Landenberg [...] was built as a typical grubbing castle around 1200. Its beginnings and first inhabitants are not documented, but in 1315 the last knights of the castle, Rudolf and his son Pantaleon, fell in the battle of Morgarten, when they suffered a devastating defeat on the side of the Habsburgs against the Confederates.The castle then fell back as an inheritance to the monastery of St. Gallen, got into the hands of various owners and came in 1549 to the city of Zurich, which they further lent Owner is mentioned a Hans Rüegg of Altlandenberg, who in 1651 offered to contribute stones of the increasingly decaying castle for a church building.The castle ruin was uncovered and restored in the years 1958/63.
