The Arctic Fox Centre is a non-profit research and exhibition centre focusing on the Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) – the only native land mammal of Iceland. The Arctic Fox Centre was founded on 15 September 2007 in Sudavik Westfjords. The founders were 42, mainly locals, tourism companies and communities in the Westfjords. They all share an interest in Arctic foxes and believe in promoting ecotourism in Iceland. The idea of the Arctic Fox Centre comes from Prof. Pall Hersteinsson from the University of Iceland, who acts as a quality witness for the centre.
