The old castle of Sart
This beautiful residence dates back to the second half of the 18th century. At that time, we saw at Petit Sart, in the property opposite the farm and today called "Li Tchestè", the remains of a dungeon whose foundations were brought to light in 1880 during the reconstruction of the farm and the current tower. This magnificent residence was extended in 1880 towards the rear with an annex and a tower. Preceded by a garden, the main facade, made of bricks and limestone and chained at the corners, is in the Louis XIV style. It includes a ground floor topped by an upper floor. There are seven bays, the middle one being wider than the others, limited by chains without a harp and surmounted by a small pediment with a bull's eye. The windows are framed by simple cut stone jambs with a curved lintel. The central bay stands out in this ensemble. The door in the center opens between two transom pilasters topped with two spandrels and a molded key supporting a fairly large cornice. This castle formerly belonged to Raes Blanche, Lord of the Petit Sart castle. It is for this reason that the Detroz farm is still called “Cinse Blanche”. The tower was rebuilt with stones from the old tower.
