A tranquil place that is well worth seeing, as Eschenlohe has retained its rural village character to this day. The place is located directly on the Loisach, surrounded by an enchanting landscape. It is worth making a little detour from the main route.
Originally a castle belonging to the Counts of Eschenlohe (Eschenlohe Castle), the place belonged to the Murnau court of the private, formerly imperial Ettal monastery from 1332 until secularization in 1803, which in turn later belonged to the Electorate of Bavaria. As part of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria, the current municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818.
