"... In the 1950s, up to 100 small mines were in operation in the south of Bochum, but disappeared relatively quickly when the coal crisis began in 1958. In 1967, the last small mine in Bochum," Küpper Käseberg ", closed near the Kemnader bridge.

The Haunert colliery, named after the owner Bernhard Haunert, is a typical example of a small mine. Built in 1946, it had its highest annual output of 17,000 tons in 1952 and employed a maximum of 85 miners, but the average was considerably lower.

Haunert had signed a mining contract with the Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (GBAG) coal mine and was allowed to mine the coal in the assigned seams of the Bochum layers.

Today the former Haunert colliery is located in the mine field of the Prinzregent colliery.

E.ON AG in Essen is the owner of the mine field

Total production in the period from 1946 to its shutdown on January 31, 1959 was 106,008 t. For comparison: At that time, a large mine in the northern Ruhr area with several thousand miners extracted over a million tons annually. In 1959 the Haunert colliery was shut down.

In 2017, on the initiative of the Knappenverein Schlägel und Eisen Bochum-Stiepel Dorf, it was recreated in 1884 by apprentices from the Deilmann Haniel company based on photos and erected near the Malakow tower Brockhauser Tiefbau. The project could be realized with the support of the Stadtwerke Bochum.
