The “Ludwig Temple” on the Bischberg is more of a spacious viewing pavilion than a typical temple. However, it offers a wonderful panoramic view of Aschaffenburg and the Lower Main Plain. Originally built in July / August 1879 by master locksmith Michael Hock on behalf of the Aschaffenburg Beautification Association and named after King Ludwig I, he was transferred to the pheasantry in 1936/37. There the Ludwig Temple fell victim to the chaos of war. It wasn't until the 1980s that it was reconstructed in the form of a pentagon in its old place.

The original Ludwig stamp was on the Bischberg until 1936/37. The simple construction, consisting of 5 steel supports and a roof, was built in 1878/79. The temple was built by the "Aschaffenburger Beautification Association" founded in 1874. In 1880, "His Majesty King Ludwig" gave permission for the temple to bear his name.
In 1936/37 the Ludwig temple was moved to the pheasantry. The space on the Bischberg was needed for the line of defense that was built along the Main. In the Fasanerie he was lost as a result of the effects of the war.

In February 1989, the head of the civil engineering department, Ernst Holleber, made a model and plans of the temple based on the only available photograph. The pentagonal shape had magical significance in the Middle Ages. If you connect the corners with lines, you get a pentagram that was ascribed magical powers.
