In the South Roztocze Landscape Park, near Siedliska, it is worth stopping at the memorial stone of Roman Gesing, an outstanding forester and activist whose initiatives contributed to the creation of many reserves and national parks in Poland. The stone stands on the "Gesing Avenue", which is made up of larches and Douglas firs planted with his participation. This peaceful place is accessible by bike, just follow the red Central Roztocze Bike Trail in the north-west direction from Siedliska.

Roman Gesing became associated with these areas in 1933, when he took up the position of forester and sawmill manager on the Rawa estate of Prince Paweł Sapieha. He graduated from the Lviv University of Technology, where in 1932 he obtained an engineering diploma at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. His name doesn't sound foreign by accident. The Gesing family settled in Galicia as a result of the so-called Josephine colonization. At the end of the 18th century, a settlement campaign was planned and led by Emperor Joseph II. In four voivodeships (Kraków, Tarnopol, Stanisławów and Lviv), which after the first partition of Poland became a province of Austria, settlements were established in which over 3,000 German families lived. These settlements existed until World War II.
