Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel (born December 15, 1804 in Pulsnitz, † February 21, 1861 in Dresden) was one of the most important German sculptors of late Classicism. The sculptures he created, such as the Goethe-Schiller monument in Weimar or the Lessing monument in Braunschweig, have decisively shaped the image of Germany as a land of poets and thinkers (Wikipedia).

Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel, born on December 15, 1804 in Pulsnitz, was one of the most important German sculptors of late classicism. In 1856 the Stockholm Academy made him an honorary member, and he received further awards and honors.

The bronze monument for the Pulsnitz-born sculptor Ernst Rietschel (1804–1861) was inaugurated on December 6, 1890. The bronze, larger-than-life figure of the sculptor, who was one of the most important German sculptors of late classicism, is depicted in simple clothing on a granite base. The monument, created by Rietschel's student Gustav Adolph Kietz, bears the inscription on the front: "Ernst Rietschel". On the back of the monument is the inscription: "Erected from the State Art Fund in cooperation with the city of Pulsnitz in 1890.
