The Schellenberg is an exposed mountain spur in the Franconian Jura above the village of Kinding. People have been using this sheltered and easily accessible location since the Neolithic period. The oldest traces of settlement on the mountain date back over 7,000 years. Apart from that, you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding landscape today.

The summit cross on the Schellenberg can be easily reached via the demanding Keltensteig near Enkering. The fantastic view rewards the climb, there is also some seating.

The Schellenburg is a mountain spur made of dolomite with steep slopes on three sides. The west and south-west slopes of the promontory are covered by a magnificent steppe heath, dotted with numerous junipers. The mountain peak is delimited from the plateau by two transverse walls about 150 meters apart with ditches in front of it, and once formed a 7-hectare prehistoric fortification that was protected by mighty defensive walls.
