Built between 1063 and 1099 under the leadership of Bishop Gontard, Saint-Apollinaire Cathedral is the oldest building in the city. It is located in the upper part of the Place des Ormeaux. In 1281, the lightning touches the bell tower, which is replaced by a slate-framed arrow. Destroyed during the wars of religion, the cathedral is rebuilt in the seventeenth century and its bell tower, which threatened ruin after being struck down again, is replaced in the nineteenth century. It was burned twice, in 1562 and 1567, by the Huguenots and rebuilt from 1604 in the original Romanesque style. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vieux_Valence
