History
In ancient times, Sées was the main town of the Celtic tribe of the Esuvier, who are equated with the Sagii; they were probably the namesakes for Sées. As coin finds etc. prove, the Romans were also present. Around the year 440, the town was Christianized by Bishop Latuinis. In the 9th century, the town was repeatedly attacked by the Normans; after they settled in the Duchy of Normandy, the situation gradually calmed down and the town developed anew from three settlement centers (Bourg-L'Evêque, Bourg-Le-Comte and Bourg-L'Abbé).
