The historic Samelstein is on the old army and trade route and was probably a marker stone. A board gives information about the history of the Samelstein and a seating area invites you to rest. You also have a wonderful view of the Franconian Line and the Franconian Forest.

The historic Samelstein, or Schamelstein, is located at the western corner of the Kirchleuserplatte plateau. It is only accessible by car in emergencies via field paths from Kirchleus. Because it is made of sandstone and therefore not weather-resistant, it has been covered.
Several very scenic hiking trails pass by the Samelstein, including the Burgenweg (Castle Trail) and the Frankenweg (Franconian Trail).
Right next to the stone is a self-contained hut with a wide roof. This is very helpful in bad weather. With a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat, you could probably spend the night here quite comfortably.
