The chapel was built in the second half of the 19th century next to a spring that was considered miraculous. According to legend, the spring was discovered by a blind beggar. During an exceptional drought, he heard the sound of water under the stones, moved the stones away and washed his face. He regained his sight almost immediately. The local population built a chapel next to the spring, and the water was used to treat all kinds of diseases. Every year on the Feast of Pentecost, a procession was organized from the local church to the chapel. After the population was expelled from Balnica in 1949, the chapel was forgotten and fell into ruin. It was renovated at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Wooden stairs and a path lead to it.
