The town is located in a slightly wider part of the Shkumbin valley on the right bank of the river at around 200 m above sea level. The valley is surrounded on all sides by not too steep but nevertheless impressive mountains. Around ten kilometers east of Librazhd, high in the mountains, lies the border with North Macedonia. To the west, the Shkumbin valley leads through a narrow gorge to Elbasan.
Since the summer of 2015, the surrounding six municipalities of the abolished Librazhd district have also belonged to the municipality. Since then, they have formed the Njësitë administrative (administrative units) of Bashkia.
