The Phoenix Lake in Dortmund-Hörde is an impressive example of the successful structural change in the Ruhr area. An artificial lake with an area of around 24 hectares was created on the former site of the Phoenix-Ost steelworks and opened to the public in May 2011. Today, the Phoenix Lake serves as a residential and local recreation area and has significantly changed the cityscape of Hörde.
The lake is surrounded by modern residential and commercial buildings and offers a variety of leisure opportunities. Walking and cycling paths run around the lake, inviting you to do sports activities and take relaxing excursions. The water quality is ensured by a special phosphate elimination system that helps keep the lake clean.
