        An old forester once lived at Kirkel Castle. He often left the castle in the evenings and didn't return until late at night. A forester's assistant noticed this. He wanted to find out where the forester was going, so he secretly followed him one night.

        The forester walked into the forest without looking left or right. The trees grew increasingly dense. Then the old man stopped, drew a circle with his stick, and muttered some incomprehensible words. From a hiding place, the assistant watched the strange activity. Suddenly, there was a rustling in the treetops, and a little man with an ice-gray beard stood in the circle. In a gravely deep voice, he began to speak: "I have served you for seven years. But tomorrow your soul will go to hell, as we agreed. Today I will grant your last wish."
