The monument on the grave of the January Insurgents at Gościniec Niepodległości is a large erratic boulder, dragged by hand by the inhabitants of Węgrów in 1917. It was erected in tribute to the fallen insurgents from the unit of Jan Matliński and Władysław Jabłonowski in an attack on Russian guns during the famous Battle of Węgrów on February 3, 1863 ., later called in poetry "Polish Thermopylae".
The stonemasonry work was carried out by the well-known Warsaw workshop of Bolesław Sypniewski, who placed an inscription on the monument - a poem by Witold Roguski: On the Ashes of Yours from the Polish Fields, Stones Are Raised Through Memory by Grateful Generations.
Scout oaths and celebrations commemorating the heroic insurgents fighting on February 3, 1863 take place here.
