In the 13th century there was the village of Büren. Due to changes in the course of the Weser in the Middle Ages, the districts of Hasenbüren and Lewenbüren, which are today to the left of the Weser, as well as Mittelbüren and Niederbüren, now on the right bank of the Weser in Werderland. When the Klöckner works in Bremen wanted to build the Klöckner steelworks in Bremen in the 1950s, the majority of Mittelbürgen was included in the required area and the houses located there were demolished. The church, which is located directly on the Weser on the outskirts of the village, and some buildings in its vicinity have been preserved.
The name of the church was interpreted as the motherless church, since the parish (the mother church) was based in Altenesch and this initially dependent church became motherless due to the Weser separation. According to another interpretation, the name of the church comes from a wastewater ditch in Werderland, which was called Moorlöse.
