In its own investment, Vérteserdő Zrt. built a house in the northern end of Csákberény showing the rich past, traditions and memories of the hunting and forestry profession.
Csákberény, like all manors, has seen many owners and experienced many battles over the centuries. In 1892, by marrying into the Lamberg family, János Merán came into the estate, and in 1937 his son Fülöp Merán took over the management of the estate. The museum bears the name of the count, who died in 1950 and had a reputation as a great hunter. In compiling the exhibition, they relied heavily on the historical and material memories of the Lamberg manor in Csákberény, and later the Merán manor, as well as the Esterházy manor in nearby Csákvár.
The museum welcomes the visitor to an exhibition of some outstanding antler weight or interesting trophies killed in Vértes in the last century, as well as an exhibition of paintings, hunting badges, old forestry geodesic instruments and original wooden books from Selmecbány.
The diorama showing the characteristic habitats and fauna of Vértes and the 70-person lecture and training room, which is also suitable for holding various public welfare, hunting and forestry lectures and conferences, also serve educational purposes.
Through the outdoor panels, we can learn about the history of the Merán and Esterházy families, as well as the life path of the former's famous chief hunter, Péter Öhlmann.
The statue of the Transylvanian woodcarver Sándor Kanalas, which depicts the patron saint of hunters, Saint Hubertus, was placed in the courtyard of the institution. The example of St. Hubertus teaches that the hunter must always be characterized by calm self-control and compassion, humility towards nature, and respect for the game.
The old wish of the Csákvár foresters was also fulfilled, according to which the names of outstanding foresters and hunters who served in Déli-Vértes for a long time were engraved on a granite tablet on the trunk of a 260-year-old, old pedunculated oak, thus paying tribute to the memory of their predecessors. Another special feature of the yard is the 80 cubic meter presentation box, which presents the history and process of charcoal burning.
The five-kilometer Panorama educational trail starts next to the museum, which is an ideal excursion with children.
Just 400 meters from the building, as a branch of the nature trail, we find a wildlife observation point equipped with a sprinkler, feeder, salt shaker, and a high shelter with approximately 10-15 seats, which offers the opportunity to observe wildlife even in those periods of particular interest, when this is restricted by a forest visit ban. .
