Beautiful promenade, very close to the water and coming from Waluff you can see the large castle-like buildings of Eltville from afar. Especially beautiful at sunset, as the sun sets in the southwest of the Rhine in autumn, bathing the buildings and the river in a reddish color.

The towpath is a hiking trail for pedestrians and cyclists that runs for twelve kilometers along the right bank of the Rhine from Walluf to Rüdesheim. The route was expanded between 2009 and 2011. Today, the towpath is largely asphalted. Only in two places, where it crosses nature reserves, is the path not asphalted but paved.

The name towpath comes from the time of towboats:
A towpath or towpath, Bomätscherpfad (Saxony), Treppelweg[1] (Austria) or Reckweg[2] (Switzerland) is a path directly on the banks of rivers or canals that was built so that people, draft animals or locomotives could pull cargo ships upstream. The process is called towing. The towboatmen and towhorses moving along the towpaths were connected to the ships via a rope.
