This work of art can be found right on the side of the road. David Jablonowski's hybrid sculpture is located directly on the Emscher-Weg cycle path in Dortmund-Schüren. Under the title "Public Hybrid", the artist combines the opposing materials sandstone and plastic to create a multi-part installation. Like sediment, 3D printed elements made of recycled plastic and broken Ruhr sandstone are layered on top of each other.

The artwork “Public Hybrid” by David Jablonowski is part of the Emscherkunstweg and was inaugurated in Dortmund-Schüren in November 2021. The installation consists of a combination of recycled plastic, produced using 3D printing, and Ruhr sandstone from Sprockhövel, which is around 320 million years old. The materials are layered on top of each other like sediments and are reminiscent of geological layers, creating a connection between the past and the future.

Using digitally manufactured plastic elements and traditionally quarried sandstone, Jablonowski addresses the region's transformation, especially in the context of the Emscher conversion. This process transforms the river and its surroundings through technological and ecological measures to create a new, hybrid landscape. The installation reflects the traces of human activity in the Ruhr area and symbolizes the interaction between nature, industry and modern technology.
