The Uitermeersluis, located near the hamlet of Uitermeer in the municipality of Weesp, is a historic hydraulic engineering structure with a rich history. This lock is part of the New Dutch Waterline, a defense line that was intended to stop enemy troops by means of controlled inundations.

The original lock was built in the 17th century and has been modified and renovated several times since then. The main purpose of the Uitermeersluis was to regulate the water level in the Vecht and the surrounding polders, which was crucial for both the water management and the defense of the area. During the Second World War, the lock again played a role in the defense, although the waterline proved less effective at that time due to improved military technology.
Fort Uitermeer itself is part of the larger network of forts and is now a historic monument.
