The Museum Station is a cultural institution in Warsaw, established in 2015 by the Mazovian Voivodeship and the Polish State Railways. The institution took over the collections and headquarters of the liquidated Warsaw Railway Museum and operates on the premises of the former Warszawa Główna railway station at ul. Towarowa 3.
Initially, it was planned to create a Communication and Technology Centre, but ultimately in 2015 it was decided to establish the Museum Station, which was officially opened on the Night of Museums on 14 May 2016. In subsequent years, the museum struggled with problems related to infrastructure - in 2018, PKP announced the closure of the planned investment in Odolany, and in 2019, in connection with the reconstruction of the Warszawa Główna Osobowa station, 40 historic rail vehicles were moved to other tracks.
The Museum Station has a branch in Sochaczew, where the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum is located. There are 170 units of rolling stock and numerous memorabilia documenting the history of narrow-gauge railways in Poland. The collection includes the oldest preserved steam locomotive in Poland from 1882 and the historic Px29-1704, which runs on the route to the Kampinos Forest in the summer.
The museum collects exhibits related to the history of railways, including historic locomotives, elements of railway infrastructure, documents and memorabilia such as maps, models, uniforms and historical banners. Among the most valuable objects are the presidential salon carriage of Bolesław Bierut, an armoured train and the only preserved Pm3 series steam locomotive in the world with an aerodynamic casing.
