The Bergwitzsee, an idyllic post-mining lake in the Wittenberg district, is one of the most popular bathing lakes in Saxony-Anhalt. Created from the former open-cast lignite mine “Roberts Hoffnung”, the recultivated local recreation area is characterized by natural shore areas, a large bathing beach, many leisure activities and excellent water quality. Visitors can enjoy the public sandy beach with snacks, a natural playground for children and special areas for nudist bathing, dog bathing and lake access for horses.
Today the Bergwitzsee has a water surface of 183 hectares, a maximum depth of 35 meters and a shoreline of 8.2 kilometers. The lake is fed by seven springs, which ensures excellent water quality.
